Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important official commented the incident left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
