From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Unveiled
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The adventurer has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group reach areas they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
