The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, sets them at odds with songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner stated earlier this year. "However I believe that me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also am eager for these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have already been green-lit by the production companies, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how fast season 2 moves, and how many of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the previously silent cast members."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — particularly in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a couple people create a prediction grid about the new season," she mentions. "Naturally I can't post it, but I've actually done a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on Prime Video on October 29.
