The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in utilizing video review systems.
Replay technology are set to arrive at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Competitors will gain the ability to contest certain decisions from the official, mirroring the practice currently in use at both the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.
This innovation will be operational on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This step follows just a season following the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the 147-year tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to review specific situations, including:
- Whether a ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Possible hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there will be no cap on the number of challenges a player can initiate.
Practical Application
An illustrative case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper admitted it was a difficult situation for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a video and determined the player was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not exclusive to Grand Slams. It has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at all of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.
This solves situations where the crowd have sometimes been uncertain whether a ball was out or in.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, organizers have further revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
